Welcome Rain, welcome winter!

The past 6 days of rain were a welcome sight. The weather this winter has been anything but typical. The other day, I was driving "Limey" as a vacuum cleaner through the orchard to pick up leaves. Here it was in the middle of January and I was bundle up from head to toe. The grasses were brown, the ground dry as a bone and the dust; well, let's just say I had to shower when I was done. This time of year the property is usually lush green, watering is absolute and we struggle to get a handle on the weeds. With no rain, the weed seed cannot sprout or green up. Were we really in winter? A shower after mowing is typically required July-October. I was shaking my head in disbelief. With little to no wind or rain this winter, the leaves have carpeted themselves on every inch of the property. Already we have hauled away 30 trailers(appr. 70 lawn & leaf bags) worth of leaves and we have another 10 trailers left. As for the last of our leaves, the rain came 2 days too soon, so the leaves still remain on the ground, carpeting the mud underneath. As I look out the window today, the sidewalks are stained with muddy paw prints and the ground is way too saturated to do anything outside. Now, I can say...Winter has begun!

Morning Surprises!

This morning I was quickly reminded of how full our life truly is. For starters, Keagan woke up this morning to Kelden climbing into his bed for an early morning 'snuggle time'. Needless to say, Kelden has learned how to safely & gracefully climb out of his crib. It looks like a 'big boy' bed is in our near future. Next, we learned that while we all slept, "mittens" figured out how to get out of her cage. Just when I thought we were through with the morning surprises, I walked in the door after taking the kids to school only to find "mittens" greeting me from the kitchen table. That mischievous kitten figured out how to use the cat door! "What's next Lord?"

I have had all intentions of updating my blog since the holidays, but life has just gotten in the way. It seems like this time of year, the time just flies by. Hours turn into days and days become weeks before I can blink. I am reminder of the verse in the bible,

"Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough troubles of its own." Matthew 6:33,34

So what do I do with this. Well, when my days do not go as planned and the 'to do list' just keeps growing, I read on...

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:6,7

I have A LOT to be thankful for! Everyone is healthy, happy and growing in the Lord day by day. We have a wonderful home and an abundance of healthy food to eat. Bills are paid and the Lord continues to provide us with just the right amount of resources every month. We are thankful for the overtime every time it is offered. Thank you Lord for your provisions!

Class Christmas Parties

It seemed so weird to only have 2 classrooms to juggle between with Hailey being on the other campus. It is kind of sad. I definitely missed not being able to interact with her and her classmates on the last day of school before Christmas break. So, when Keagan asked if I'd stay for his whole party, I jumped at the opportunity. The time just seems to fly!

Brian stayed with the boys while they napped so that I could participate in Bethany's class party on Thursday.

Landon was such a charmer. He kept posing for me when I pulled out the camera.

Bethany & Jack Voudouris are only 10 days apart. Jack & Bethany have so many fun memories together as their mommies are best friends. This was Jack's last day of school. His family is moving to Savannah, Georgia over the break. We sure are going to miss all of them!

I was surprised on Friday morning with the news that I would not have Alex. So, I was able to spend the whole morning with Keagan, Bethany & Kelden. What a great surprise! Keagan sure did appreciate our time in the classroom as he built a gingerbread house.

YEAH, School is over...let Christmas begin!

"Panini - Ugly Sweater-Going Away" Party

About 1 1/2 years ago, Brian and I joined a marriage group with 6 other couples. We meet every Thursday evening for about 3 1/2 hours to pray, to fellowship, to share parenting ideas, and marriage advice. Two couples have 3 children and the other five couples have 4-6 children. All together we have 28 children! Raising a large family in these economic times requires creative thinking. These couples have become our best friends. The commodity that we share is amazing! The leaders of our group have played a 'Big' role in our own marriage for the past 15 years. We are sad to say, the Voudouris' will be moving to Savannah, Georgia before Christmas to pursue a full-time Chaplaincy in the Army. Kristin and I are very close and this will be a great loss for us both. Please, pray for us both as we have to say goodbye. They will be greatly missed!

However, the 'ugly sweater' was pulled off only by a few. Too many of us were just too busy to shop. Last year our group had almost 100% participation so that has to count for something.

Yeah! For years, we have wanted to join this group for their annual, 'cutting a Christmas tree & snow' day, but Brian has always worked. This year we were able go and what a fun family day we had!

I was really missing these two kiddoes. So, I called their mom & dad to see if there was a day that they could come over for a few hours. It just so turned out, they needed afternoon childcare. So, I dropped off Alex and picked up Claire & Landon. Call me crazy...6 kids by myself, homework, dinner and baths...but I loved every minute of it! These two just blend right in with mine. Thanks Tim & Casey for sharing!

Hailey and I tag teamed Bethany & Landon's homework with a spelling drill in shaving cream. Of course, Claire and Kelden had to be a part of the fun, too. All was well until Kelden began to paint Landon with his shaving creme. Kelden was quickly wished away to the bath tub while Hailey finished the rest of the spelling list. It was only Monday and both Bethany & Landon knew all of their words and verse. I was very, very impressed!

Bethany came up with the idea of raising your hands when you were done writing the word. Everyone got on board!

Landon could not resists the temptation to jump in the pile of leaves. Kelden thought this was so cool!

Grandpa Fun!

The weekend of 'Grandpa Fun' started with Grandparent's Day on Friday at Faith Christian School. The fun continued with 2 Junior Pheasant Hunts. Who would have known one year ago when Hailey & Keagan got their hunting licenses that they would have so many opportunities to spend quality time with their 3 favorite men. On Saturday, Brian and Grandpa Jim took the 2 kids on their first Junior Pheasant Hunt at Nelson Slough. They only got 1 shot each and no birds, but had a blast! That afternoon, we all headed to Williams to help Grandpa harvest his walnut trees. The day was full, but the memories...PRICELESS! On Sunday, Brian and Grandpa Loren took the kids on their second hunt. They both limited out! The excitement was definitely in the air! The competition, too. Both hunts were entirely different from each other. The memories made and the experiences shared will be retold for many years. Bare with me I had to work backwards.

As Brian and I pulled up at my parent's orchard, the site of my dad down on his knees picking walnuts with my kids, tugged at my heart. I have so many memories as a young girl doing this same thing with my dad and his almond trees.

Bethany reminds me so much of myself at this age. My dad had a lot of fun with her.

I couldn't resist. As the youngest, the family dog was always my source of entertainment when the family was working...It was for Kelden, too.

Whenever my dad would work ahead of us knocking the trees, Kelden would just run after him as fast as his little legs could keep up; just so that he could be a part of the action.

This gang was wet and cold from the rain and just plain EXHAUSTED! We were all ready for Straw Hat Pizza and a hot bath.

3 jogs in 2 days!

Now that Hailey is on the high school campus the school jog-a-thon is spread over two days. The kids really enjoy Brian running with them so spreading all those laps over two days is definitely easier on his body. The jog-a-thon is always a fall highlight for our kids. Today, we had someone ask us how many jogs Brian and I have participated in...SO, I added them up and unbelievably the number of jogs totals 42...and counting. The jog represents so many things to our family...diggin' deep, giving our best, supporting our friends, Lions Pride, sore legs, Gatorade, grandparents, unpredictable weather, Popsicles, orange slices, spray bottles, loud music, Mr. Hannold starting each race, connecting with school parents, cheering for siblings...

Every year, I leave the school feeling so blessed from the fun, fellowship and joy of watching these kids, 'doing it all for the glory of the Lord'.

HIGHSCHOOL JOG-

Hailey completed 20 laps (5 miles)! She is one determined girl. Few people knew that Hailey ran with two bandaged toes from having surgery on end-grown toe nails a week ago. We could not be prouder!

The next generation. Three brothers came to cheer on their 7th grade sisters. When we pulled up to the track, Kelden clapped his hands and yelled, "Yeah!" -Too cute!

Brother, Josiah Handy, would not leave Brian's side. He cried when Brian took off to go run with Hailey.

Every year, Mr. Hannold starts each class off by leading the kids around the track for the first lap.

These three boys agreed to fun together...in the end, Keagan and Tye were still together.

At times, Tye was pulling Keagan along, but they both finished with 21 laps, finishing top of their class. Congratulations boys!

The first graders came out for recess to cheer on the 5th graders.

Bethany and Landon were so cute as they kept their eyes locked onto Keagan and his friends.

Keagan and Tye left Brian in the dust. So, Brian came alongside a few of his soccer players to encourage and run with them. He is loved by so many of the kids. I just love that about him. He sees a need and goes after it.

Claire joined Kelden, Alex and I for a morning of play. Kelden and Claire had a blast with the play dough(Kelden's favorite activity) while Alex played on the floor. We need to do it again real soon, Claire!

This weekend was so incredibly relaxing. For the first time in about 2 months, we were able to spend the evening on Friday as a family. It seems so hard these days to find an evening and even harder to find an entire day where we can all be home together, engaged in the same activity. The kids crave it and more importantly we all need it. Here is a glimpse into the first 24 hrs. of our much needed weekend of R & R before daddy headed off for a 48 hr. weekend shift.

I love watching these two interact; so far apart in age, yet, so much alike in personality & looks.

Bethany & daddy have been diligently picking & shelling almonds for the past 2 weeks in 30 minute increments of time, here & there. Bethany is always on cloud 9 when it is just her & daddy.

The evening family project was to trim a few good size branches off of the oak tree to allow more sunlight into the rose garden. Eventually, the oak tree will completely block out all of the sunlight, leaving us with an even bigger job of moving the entire rose garden. Until then, we will stick to the small job of trimming one branch at a time.

Brian is always impressing us with his knot tieing skills. Keagan, on the other hand, will use this opportunity to swing like a monkey on Brian's pulley system; while Brian figures out just how he is going to safely trim this branch.

I walked into the rocking chair this week and possibly broke my pinkie toe. It has been hard to get around the last couple of days, so Brian offered to get down the harvest tote from the attic before heading back to work. Hailey & Kelden wandered up to the attic and this was the end result. It took everything in Brian & Hailey to get him down.

I started my day on Saturday at a baby shower for my high school friend, Meredith (Morrison) Smith. It was so fun catching up with both Meredith and Crystal (Hannold) DeMerrit.

The kids and I spent the rest of the weekend napping, watching movies, playing games, crafting & preparing for the week ahead. It is feeling like Fall!

18 Months Old

Our little bear is growing up...we're all sad...but each day we can't help but fall head over heals in love with him. He is a charmer, a snuggler, a comedian and a 'fix it' boy. He loves to play inside or out. He loves anything and everything with a motor. He can say- 'Na Na'(mama), 'Dada', 'Ailey', 'Eagan', 'Ne'(Bethany), 'sissy', 'Ouwex'(Alex)', 'Andon', 'illie & sally', 'Ouch', 'all done', 'Ut-Oh!', 'Nigh-Nigh', 'More', 'bye, bye', 'doggie', 'kitty','mouw, mouw'(meow), Whoa!', 'airpane', 'look', 'up-high'. We love you to pieces, K.C.! Happy 18 months!

READY OR NOT...School is here!

The 3 older kids are off at school and I have to admit...the house is way too quiet! This is going to take a little getting used to. I miss them and can't wait to here how their 1st day of school went.

7th grade...WOW!

Hailey woke up not feeling well from a head cold and vey nervous! While she worked hard to hold back the tears of the unknown, mom just let them flow...my girls growing up...where did the time go?

5th grade

A handsome boy ready to take on the world! Mr. Wickline is his first male teacher. An energetic man who loves his coffee...Son, you better get used to coffee breath.

1st grade...a new backpack & a full day!!!

Yeah...I am not alone!

Kelden was a little unsure this morning when he realized the kids were not coming home, but not for long. Alex came to play at 9:00. The boys have done so well together. They both have a gentle spirit about them. Babysitting Alex is going to be so good for Kelden. Alex will join us M-F in the morning when I drop Hailey off at school and then I will take him to his grandma (Paula Finlay) when I pick Hailey up at 3:00. The day has gone by so fast! Busy, but not too busy.

Home from camp

I picked my sister Destiny up and she rode the rest of the way to pick Hailey up from camp. Hailey was surprised and happy to see her Aunt.

Last year, Hailey made friends from Redding. This year the girls were all back!

Hailey's camp counselor happened to be the niece of my childhood friend, Anne.

Destiny's husband, Brandon, grew up between Redding & Viola; so on the way home we stopped by his parent's horse ranch to see where he was raised. What a treat it was to get to know my sister better. The time was so special, but way too short.

Word of Life Summer Camp

Monday, the kids and I drove Hailey up to camp (45 miles east of Redding). Let's just say, it was a long day for all of us- 3 1/2 hrs. both ways. It was worth it all to see the excitement on Hailey's face. She worked her heart out this summer to earn enough money to go by mowing Grandpa & Grandma's lawn, babysitting her siblings, helping out & selling things in our yard sale, as well as, planning her own bake sale. Two days before our yard sale, Hailey was busy in the kitchen baking bread & cookies to sell during our yard sale. She did everything on her own and I could not have been prouder! Thank you to the Sims' family for donating fresh produce for Hailey's bake sale. Thank you Uncle Cody for the example of hard work and perseverance that you have set before my children. You inspire Hailey!

Of course, Kelden was fascinated with the camp staff's 3-wheeler, mule & golf carts. He just did not understand why he could not go for a ride.

Sleeping accommodations...tepee's & tents. It was only 76 degrees at 2:00 pm with thunderheads hovering overhead. I hope these kids stay warm & dry!

Hailey will never be too old for our traditional camp photo. Hailey was only one or two years older than Bethany when she first came to church camp.

Bethany's friend, Audrey, was up at camp with her Grandpa & Grandma so the girls were able to enjoy a short visit. I was 10 years old when I attended Word of Life camp with Audrey's Aunts, Laurie & Angie. Brings back memories.

Hailey was delighted to show Keagan around.

School friends, Jessica & Ashley joined Hailey at camp along with a few girls from last year.

We were able to sneak in about an hour visit with my sister, Destiny & husband Brandon on the way home. I have not made a Redding visit since their wedding about a year ago. It was fun to see their new home!

When you have so many Aunts & Uncles, you get to do things that you normally don't get to do at home. I can't wait for another visit. This one was way too quick.

All Stars comes to an end...

Keagan was voted onto the Sutter Area Minor All Star Team for his outstanding skills as a first string catcher...a big honor for any 10 year old boy. Since June, Keagan has enjoyed gelling with his new team mates and improving his baseball skills from his new coaches. There was a total of 6 games and our team made it all the way through the 4th game. The top team will play for the State Championship title. It was a great experience for Keagan. Thank you Grandpa & Grandma Warta, Grandpa & Grandma Penterman, Aunt Amber & Uncle Randy, and Aunt Kate & Andrew, and the Ahlers for coming and cheering on Keagan. Great job Keagan!

Happy 4th

Brian was off this year, so the kids requested that we hunker down at home for our own celebration...something we have never done before. It was 104 degrees and the kids were not up for doing much until about 6:00 p.m. which made for a really late night. These were the activities that kept us up until 11:15, but there was no way that Brian or I was willing to cut out a single thing that the kids had requested to do because this was their night: a swim at the Ahlers, a 4th of July photo in the sunflower field (mom's 1 request), a trip to Janyo yogurt, a redbox rental, a chase of illegal fireworks, a purchase of fireworks at RVCF youths firework stand, an order of Wendy's french fries, a first ever firework display at home, and the grand finale...30 min. of Gnomeo & Juliet. The night was simple, but very memorable.

Highlights included-

*searching for something to ignite the fireworks only to discover a handful of paper matches...how does that happen in a firefighters home?

*Kelden 1st enjoyment of a glow stick, but what made it even more exciting was when he decided to spin in circles with the glow stick in hand on the slatted cement apron. It took two people to keep him from crashing.

*Bedtime being extended an additional 10 min. because dad did not join us for the first 10 min. of the "family movie" so we had to start it over again.

*Kelden running away from the fireworks he loved so much at the beginning of the night when we lit the piccolo pete.

Honoring 'Our Father'

Brian had to work on Father's Day and the day after. It's just not the same when we have to celebrate Father's Day on a different day, but we did the best we could to let Brian know just how much he is loved and appreciated. He is an amazing dad, who devotes his heart and soul into these 4 kiddoes. We love you SO VERY MUCH, Brian!

The kids have been working on his gift for the past 2 months. They came up with it all on their own. Not many people know just how hard being a firefighter is on the feet. After a 48 hr. shift Brian's feet need a little T.L.C. from being in wet station boots. So, the kids put together a little basket full of 'As Seen On T.V.' products for the feet. I was attempting to give a mini pedicure until Kelden discovered that I had a pretty cool tool that made some noise. Needless to say, he took over my job.

Brian was excited to own his very first custom fit pair of slip on shoes.

As temperatures have been in the 100's a swim next door was a must. Kelden's love for the water was no surprise to us. He loves it as much as his big sister.

Bethany decided to try the slide for the first time...

let's just say, for someone who does not like water in the face it did not go over well.

Let Summer Begin!!!

REALLY...I have not given up on blogging. Four kids and 3 1/2 acres has kept Brian and I busy this year. Not to mention field trips, homework, softball, baseball, housework and the 28 family birthdays; yes, I counted! My summer goal is to squeeze in the time (a little each day) to get my blog current. I hope you all enjoy the look into our lives as much as we have enjoyed living it. Stay tuned....

Three weeks into our summer vacation and it finally feels like summer. The weather has turned from the 60's to the 90's in a matter of a week. Nothing like trading in the sweaters for a swimsuit. Go California! School ended on May 26th. Since then, we went on a 15th anniversary trip, a 3 day camping trip and ended the Minors Mudhen baseball season. Baseball is not quite over for the Wartas...Keagan & 2 players from his team were voted onto the All Star Team. Keagan couldn't be more excited and we couldn't be prouder! He played the whole season as the first string catcher, developed some leadership skills and boosted his self confidence.

Here's a look into the other things that have filled our days...

Kelden has Hailey's love for the water...just can't get enough no matter how cold it is.

Oh yes, and there is always time in Kelden's world for a snuggle or two...

and a little hard work never hurt anyone.

Keagan is learning to mow the yard and is excited to earn a little money this summer.

Keagan has been eager to do this for years but his legs were just not long enough to reach the brakes without lifting his bum off the seat, which disengages the engine. He was so determined on this day. He shared his idea with me and I said, "Try it and if it works, the job is all yours." If you look real close, you can see my 12 lb. weights...one on the seat and one bungee corded to the platform of the seat. It worked...so, away he went.

Kelden is about as eager as his brother.

He reminds us so much of Uncle Tim, intrigued by how everything works.

Hailey and Brian have been diligently working to make improvements on her animal pens...increasing the size and strength of the chicken coop AND raising the goats house up off the ground to provide more shade.

Yeah...it works. Hailey has 3 goats now, Sophie, Scarlett(pictured) and Shelby.

Brother gives me lots of wheelbarrow and quad rides.

With Keagan's hands busy Bethany enjoys riding the quad alone.

A birthday campout

It might take me most of the day, but I am determined to update our blog for the months of Feb., Mar., & Apr. We have been up to so much and we would like to share it all with the ones we love. So, snuggle down and get ready to take an adventure into our lives as a family of 6. It might get crazy at times, but we wouldn't change a thing.

Brian spent his 36th birthday on an overnight field trip with the 4th grade class in the gold mining town of Colomo in Placer County. What a trooper! The school met up with 2 other schools at a camp facility called "Rock 'n' Water. The camp staff is in costume and full character of the gold mining days for the entire two days. The boys had a great time stepping back in time and reliving the gold mining days. They made candles, rope, postcards, tortillas, butter, buttermilk and learned to line dance. They hiked, gold panned, explored Gold-bug Mine, learned the Indian history, discovered the native plants, & learned many of the 'old time' recreational games. Every child, also, participated in the duties of the camp kitchen (ie, washing dishes, cracking eggs). Brian's birthday did not go unnoticed. I smuggled in a Duncan Hines chocolate cupcake and a package of candles with one of the dads. On Friday morning, Keagan and Mr. Morrison surprised Brian with a lit cupcake while he was in the food line for seconds. He was quite surprised to arrive back to the table with his food, see the cupcake and hear the entire campground singing "Happy Birthday". Keagan still feels bad for embarrassing him. What a memory!

That evening, Hailey and I cooked Brian a birthday dinner of fried chicken, corn on the cob, coleslaw, and biscuits. I was quite embarrassed to have to ask Brian for his cooking advice since it was my first time ever frying chicken. He was very gracious to me and together the three of us made some pretty good fried chicken. I could not have pulled this evening off without the help of Hailey. Thank you, bug.

Kelden thought that the 36 candles were pretty cool and well, Keagan he is definitely our pyromaniac, indeed!

I don't know where the past 12 years have gone, but I do know this- we are so blessed to have this young lady as our daughter! Hailey, you have blessed our lives in so many ways. You continually teach mom & dad what it means to work hard, to love deeply and to live humbly. You are an inspiration to us and an awesome role model to your younger siblings. Hailey and Kelden's birthdays are 7 days apart. Keagan and Bethany's birthdays are only 2 days apart in May. We have figured out a way to celebrate joint birthdays. This year, Hailey really seemed to enjoy the attention off of her.

Thank you to everyone who came to help us celebrate Hailey's 12th and Kelden's 1st birthdays.

Most of you know that I have been recovering from a fractured rib over the past 4 weeks. During this time I have enjoyed picking up some of my old hobbies to past the time. If it wasn't for the kids upcoming birthdays I think I would have lost my mind...no laundry, no grocery shopping, no housework and no lifting which included Kelden. Here's what I did!

Our little boy is one years old today. Where did the time go? One year ago, we brought home a fragile bundle of joy, unsure of what the year would hold for our growing family, but excited to have him in our lives. A year later, we look at our sweet little boy with a remembrance of the many lessons that God taught us this year.

Monday nights are really hairy for us. We had 20 min. after nap time and before the first cheer leading practice to open Kelden's gift, sing "Happy Birthday" and enjoy a little cake & ice cream. Our next 30 min. window of the evening was blocked out for dinner. The next time we would all be together again was after the two younger kids bedtime. Time was tight, but we pulled it off without being too rushed. Here's our little boy's first experience with cake...

One Years Old!

This past year has gone by so very fast. Who knew that one little boy could have taught us so much about love, forgiveness and grace. He graces us each day with his amazing smile and his love for life. We are so blessed to have little Kelden in our family. Here's what Kelden has been up to this month.

I can climb into just about anything.

Most of our 2 1/2 week Christmas vacation has been been taken up with a nasty cold. Needless to say, the children have been very disappointed. Yesterday was the last day we had together as a family before the kids got back to school. So, we wanted to make it count! Only in the North Valley can you, just on a whim, take a day trip to the ocean, to a sunny beach, or to the snow. Casey pulled out of our driveway around 12:30 after dropping off Bethany & Keagan. By 3:00 the kids were rolling in a foot of snow! Now that is spontaneity!

We found a perfect spot at Scotts Flatt. The stores were all closed, but that didn't slow down travelers from enjoying...

...a little sledding,

...and catching the snowflakes with your tongue.

Just as we were getting ready to head back to the car it started snowing. The kids got to experience it all. The 1 1/2 hr. stop along the road turned out to be more than we could have imagined. Kelden loved the snow! I kept thinking he would fit in quite well at Uncle Matt and Aunt Jamie's house.

I can't think of a better way to end our afternoon in the snow than a little dinner at KFC. (a daddy tradition in Grass Valley)

Ringing in the New Year!

Traditionally the kids go to my parents for an overnighter, but due to our long lasting colds we felt it was best if the kids stayed closer to home and rang in the New Year, eastern time. So, we joined our church friends at the Finch's home (Oh, you brave souls!) in Sutter and rang in the year at 9:00 p.m. At the end of the night, Keagan and Bethany joined Landon and Claire for a sleepover (God bless you, Casey!) while Hailey rang in the New Year again with Brian and I at midnight.

They started early with the sweets.

The garage was heated and set up with various carnival games for the kids.

1 month short of a year

This month has flown by just as fast as Kelden's first year. December has been very busy, but our little boy has been busier. Kelden learned to stand all by himself, cruise around the furniture, clap, climb sisters' bunk bed ladder, walk, open the toilet lid, unroll the toilet paper, pull apart the dishwasher, unplug the electrical outlets and open all the cupboards! Words learned: Ha-ee, done, all done, good, nigh-nigh, Hi, dr..ink, more, ma ma, da da. Also, Kelden broke through his 1 year molars between Thanksgiving and Christmas. He now has 12 teeth! We all look forward to celebrating his 1st birthday in a few more weeks. He is a true joy to us all!

Kelden was on antibiotics for 2 1/2 weeks with occasional breathing treatments.

Dads says I can do this all by himself.

...I can crawl on all the UPS boxes,

Brothers teaching me how to be a real cowboy.

I think I almost got it!

I can even shoot brother's gun.

I can eat popcorn whenever I want!

I can use a fork.

Mom lets me have oreos and dad lets me have candy canes.

That sure was GOOD, but I think I need a washrag.

An early family Christmas

This year we celebrated our Christmas on the 23rd. For the first time ever, we were able to enjoy a nice breakfast, stay in our jammies and enjoy an entire day of celebrating. No planning could have prepared us for an unexpected visit to Urgent care for mom to get on a much needed antibiotic. All in all, the day was wonderful!

Oh yes, Bethany and Kelden were on antibiotics, too. After Christmas, they were both given a second dose of antibiotics which they are still finishing. Hopefully this weeks check up we will get a clean bill of health.

Christmas stockings were always my favorite. My mom would spend so much time shopping for the most unique and personal items to fill each of our stockings. She continued to fill stockings for us kids and our spouses up until about 4 years ago. There's just too many of us now, so her energy is poured into filling the stockings of 12 grandchildren. Bless you mom!

Brian and I took a little different approach to Christmas this year and it turned out to be so much fun.

1. Most of our shopping was done on-line.

2. Most of our shopping was done in 2 days.

3. A few gifts were homemade.

4. Holiday baking was simplified to 2 big batches of Christmas bark which was packaged the 1st week of December. It was ready to go when ever we needed to bless someone.

5. A kettle corn Christmas mix was made for all the neighbors and packaged in decorated formula canisters.

6. The Christmas letter was worked on a little at a time beginning after Halloween.

7. Yard work was ignored.

8. A handful of gifts were purchased second-hand.

9. Everyone stayed rested.

10. We said 'no' when we needed to say 'no'.

Every year is unique in its own way. I can't wait til next year!

Christmas Parties

The last day of school before Christmas break is a favorite day of celebration for the F.C.S. families. This year was no exception!

The joy and excitement radiated throughout the school's campus and the classrooms were overflowing with parents, grandparents, gifts and yummy food. This year was exceptionally challenging- 3 kids & 3 classrooms. I needed a clone! It was Hailey's last year on the elementary campus and Bethany's first. Keagan wanted me for the whole time. Dividing my time equally between all three kids was definitely challenging.

Miss Bethany is always a good sport about sharing mom.

These cupcakes were extraordinary! The white and green chocolate leaves were delicately made using mint leaves. This Kindergarten mom must have a lot of time on her hands. They were inquisitive!

Bethany was so embarrassed that I would come to her school without my eye make-up on. On the other hand, I was just happy to have made it there on time with the food, staff treats & Christmas letters for all three classrooms, make-up or no make-up. I shouldn't complain Beth could be like her sister, Hailey who would melt down if she had to go to school with her hair uncurled.

Mrs. Crawford's daughter, Melodi and grand-daughter, Maxine, joined in on the festivities.

Later that evening, Hailey attended a class party in the home of one of her classmates. There was neighborhood caroling, a white elephant gift exchange, food, games & even some girl drama(I am so thankful that Hailey is NOT a dramatic person). I feel blessed.

The Annual F.D. Christmas party was held at St. 4 this year with an early morning pancake breakfast. The change seemed to be loved by all. Unfortunately, Kelden and mom were home sick.

Every fire department event is a great hit when Captain Dave is there.

It is so much fun getting to see family every morning at school. I have enjoyed bringing my niece Claire home with me on occasion to spend the morning together while Bethany and big brother Landon are in school. We play games, shop, play with toys, bake, read, make crafts or play outside. Sometimes we do it all during those short 3 hours, but we always have fun. This morning Claire came over while Daddy & Mommy had a little 'alone time'. Although we were both feeling under the weather, we kept the tissue box next to us and made Christmas ornaments in between wiping our noses!

Holiday Cheer!

The holidays are upon us whether we are ready for them or not. Every year at our house Christmas takes on a different look and this year is no exception. With a 10 month old boy in the house, who is on the verge of walking, the decorating has been down scaled a bit. So far, the tree is still standing and no decorations have been broke (knock on wood). All in all, Kelden has faired pretty well. Check back in soon for some new November posts. Here's a glimpse into the month so far...

Kelden is in the "seek to destroy" phase. Once a drawer has been completely emptied or a closet destroyed boredom sets in so he quickly moves onto to a new area. Most of the time, the 15 min. of contentment far outweighs the mess which is being created.

Our family tradition of receiving a new ornament every year on the night we decorate the Christmas tree is creating a bit of a problem...our tree is getting too small! The tradition will continue as the kids look forward to what significant event of the year mom will choose to be represented in everyone's new ornament.

Hailey has always been "Our Sunshine". Since birth we have sung "You are My Sunshine" to her. This year she has been our light in the midst of some trying times. Thank you Hailey for your positive attitude, your wisdom and your smile, which warms our heart.

Keagan received a personalized boy holding a clarinet. This is Keagan's first year participating in band. He has done an excellent job maintaining good grades and has a natural musical ability. Great job Son!

Bethany had 2 really big things happen in 2010...starting Kindergarten and becoming a BIG sister! I chose to honor the second significant event. Bethany's nurturing and motherly personality has contributed to her deep desire to want to be a BIG sister. Bethany we are so proud of you for making Kelden such a special part of your life. He is blessed to have you as his BIG sister.

Daddy damage control. Brian is known in our house as the "treat snatcher". The kids have tried hiding their goodies and writing their names on baggies, but daddy still finds them. You would think after the countless tears that we would not still have this problem, but we do. After Halloween, Brian ate Bethany's pretzel sticks from Auntie Casey. Of course he felt terrible. So, Brian being the wonderful dad that he is purchased all the supplies to make new ones with Bethany.

Bethany felt very special and has graciously shared them all with the family.

Family is what makes the Holiday Season so very special and uniquely different every year!

Boot Drive

Saturday we enjoyed an afternoon of volunteering for the MDA boot drive along Colusa Hwy. Kelden enjoyed playing with his buddy Brice from the firehouse who is firefighter Michele's son. Hailey and Dave's daughter, Shawna had fun embarrassing themselves as their microphones picked up every giggle, sound, song or word they shared. Keagan ate up his "daddy time" and I enjoyed reminiscing with the wives while Bethany played with Captain Dave. The weather was perfect for spending the day together as a family.

Halloween

Halloween night was super fun! The kids just love getting together with their cousins to show off their costumes, to eat candy and to just be plain silly! Sometimes the adults are caught having more fun then the kids. Thank you Uncle Tim and Aunt Casey for inviting us to join you around your neighborhood...living in the country does have it's disadvantages.

Brian was able to coach Hailey & Keagan's soccer team. This was the last year that Hailey & Keagan would play on the same team. It was bittersweet. Keagan enjoyed playing forward & Goalie. Hailey enjoyed playing forward & half-back.

Eight months old already?

Daddy says that I am getting to be a big boy. I can do so many new things like sitting up, rolling the ball, pulling hair, sleeping through the night and feeding myself. You better watch out though cause I can blow my food at you like a blow fish and I can grawl like a real bear cub, too.

Science Camp

I can't believe our daughter is heading up to 6th grade camp. The years have flown by. Hailey's wish has always been that I counsel for Science camp. We were both disappointed that this was not an option. I was able to transport Hailey to and from camp and spend an hour on both ends with her and her friends. What a joy this was for us both!

Road construction held us up for 15 min.

Mrs. Meyers has two sons. She did not know what she was getting herself into with this group of squealing girls.

Stepping Stone Madness!

The kids and I made stepping stones one evening when Brian was at work. It was a huge success and SO MUCH fun! So we invited Tim, Casey, Landon and Claire over on Friday night for Pizza and stepping stones. Much to our surprise the sun is going down much earlier now and we were forced to finish up in the dark. No matter how hard Brian and I try to keep things simple country living just seems to add a bit of craziness. Too many things to do and not enough time. The night was still so much fun and we enjoyed visiting with our dearest friends. Thanks a bunch guys! We love you all!

Kelden at 7 months

I am 7 months old now. I have 6 teeth and I am working on two more! My sisters know now not to stick their fingers in my mouth because I bite. I can say, "nigh nigh", "Da Da Da" and "Ma Ma Ma". I am learning to sleep in my crib in big brother's room. I can roll from my back to my tummy and back to my back. I recently rolled over in the bath tub! I can sit by myself but watch me closely because sometimes I topple over. I still love my baths very much, but I give my parents a work-out when it comes to diaper changing. With a smile like this...I pretty much have my family drooling over me.

Mr. Giraffe is my pal.

We enjoyed some much needed 'family time' over the weekend. On Friday night we enjoyed the evening at the ballpark eating hot dogs & candy. We just couldn't pass up free tickets to a Rivercats game! Thanks Dan & Shanna Ashby for blessing us!

1st Day of School

Hailey

Hailey's 1st day in 6th grade...yes, 6th grade! I don't know what is harder for mom...to have a child in sixth grade or one going off to Kindergarten.

It was a treat to see Keagan eating lunch with his friends at the picnic tables when I picked Bethany up from school.

Keagan has a wonderful new teacher, Mrs. Paula Graham. We are very excited to see what new things she will bring to the school.

My little girl is off to Kindergarten. No longer my baby, but a very BIG girl who is excited to learn many new things.

Every student was required to take a photo with their family. Brian was visiting Keagan's classroom since he missed Back To School Night so Bethany and I went ahead and took our photo together. Mrs. Crawford was not about to let Brian miss out on the photo opportunity so she let us stay after the bell rang to retake our photo. I was so grateful since we have this photo with our other children. Thank you so much Karen for being so persistent.

I have to say Bethany definitely has her Daddy's smile.

What a blessing to have these two in school together. It is a real joy seeing family every morning and afternoon.

Back To School Night
